Nya Prästgårdsängen

Prästgårdsängen is situated in the eastern parts of Gothenburg, on the west coast of Sweden. The high rises of Prästgårdsängen where completed in 1965. Now, planning is underway for Nya Prästgårdsängen - a densification which will add 300 apartments, a number of commercial spaces and a public square to the area.

Between October 2021 and May 2022 Point, together with the brand agency Ojity, led a project focused on future-proofing Nya Prästgårdsängen, i.e. to create the housing of the future with high value - for residents, visitors, businesses and the property owner -both now and in the future.

Point led workshops with the property owner, collected and performed an analyses based on secondary data. Together with Ojity, Point also conducted a two-part dialogue process with the current residents of the area. Our main focus was future proofing the residential area from a sustainability perspective.

The first workshop together with the property owner was based around examining objectives, expectations and unconfirmed hypotheses regarding how Nya Prästgårdsängen should be designed.

After the initial workshop we were able to identify three focus areas for the continued work: Who are we building for?, Sustainable mobility and A living square.

In the research work that followed we used data from the city of Gothenburg’s statistical database, the district’s local development plan, SOU investigations, research reports and surveys carried out by the city of Gothenburg, the city’s policies and guidelines and analysis of macro trends in urban development.

In the second workshop, we presented the findings we made based on the questions, we challenged some of the hypotheses identified in the first workshop and held a discussion about how the insights could be managed and taken to the next step in the process.

The discussions surrounding the insights from the research process also resulted in Point carrying out a dialogue process in the form of two separate meetings with existing tenants in Prästgårdsängen. The background to the dialogue process was partly the need to collect feedback on the ideas that have been developed so far, and partly the need to anchor the work The results from the two dialogue sessions were compiled by Point and packaged by Ojity, and then formed the basis for the assignment given to the architectural firm contracted to design the area and the new buildings.
